Fujian is one of the four major homes of traditional Chinese arts and crafts. There are over 100 varieties of arts and crafts that fall into 13 major categories, including carving (stone carving, wood carving, jade carving, etc.), lacquer art, art ceramics, handicraft flower painting, bamboo, grass and vine weaving, and metal handicrafts. The products range from exquisite artistic pieces for professional collectors to practical handicrafts for general consumers.

Fujian now has 38 national masters of arts and crafts, accounting for 10% of the national total. There are also 276 masters at provincial level and tens of thousands of folk artist and skilled craftsmen. Over 10,000 enterprises are engaged in handicrafts business, employing over 400,000 people. In 2016, they generated an output value of RMB 70 billion.
