Fujian is home to a great variety of operas. Apart from the five major dramas, namely Min Opera, Liyuan Opera, Puxian Opera, Gaojia Opera, and Xiang Opera, there are also Yue Opera, Han Opera of the Western Fujian, Peking Opera, Chao Opera, Puppetry, Nanyin and some minor dramas such as Beilu Opera, Meilin Opera, Dacheng Opera, Daqiang (Loud Singing) Opera, to name just a few. In recent years, Fujian opera has made great headway and become a unique component of the Chinese opera art. The long and profound history of these traditional operas has produced generations of excellent opera singers and performers.
