Wanshou Rock Paleolithic Site, located in Sanming, Fujian, is a typical Paleolithic cave found in South China. The site can be dated back to 180,000 years ago. In this site, archaeologists excavated man-made stone pavements and drainage trenches, which are very rare worldwide. They also found in a hill caves that represented all the three (early, middle and late) stages of the Paleolithic age, which is the only one of its kind found in Fujian and even on the whole Chinese southeast coast. The findings of Wanshou Rock Paleolithic Site rewrote the history of early human activity in Fujian, presenting new evidence of Fujian and Taiwan sharing a common prehistoric cultural source and giving clearer explanations to how the prehistoric mainland culture spread to Taiwan.
